Legend has it Swampatoes wandered down from either the North Pole or Northern Canada. Along his way, he picked up a shaggy dog. He and his dog ended up in northern Wisconsin. In fact he lives somewhere around here. He has been watching our families for the last 30 years.
Through his observations he knows quite a lot about us. And he usually pays us a visit on the Fourth of July, and every Thanksgiving.
Through his observations he knows quite a lot about us. And he usually pays us a visit on the Fourth of July, and every Thanksgiving.
On the 4th of July, he returns one of the missing sock he has taken from each of us throughout the year. He puts our name on the sock, hangs it on the clothes line, and puts something foolish in the sock. Like funny glasses, or silly string. He's quite the trickster.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Swampa makes his second annual appearance. He hides plastic Easter eggs out in the snow. Each egg has a number it. He has prizes with corresponding numbers as gifts.
The grandkids are sent out to search for their eggs while it is still light out.
Some times they like the prizes they get,
and sometimes they are a little disappointed!
After the grands have had their chance, the parents search for their eggs.
This year, Swampa had the grands hide the parent's eggs. And they did a very good job!
Then the craziness begins...............
Swampa gives the adults, silly things, and practical things.
This is our family's tradition... Although it gets crazy we all have lots of laughs and lots of fun. Swampa goes back in the swamp to dream up what he's going to do for the next holiday!!

ReplyDeleteThose just for fun traditions are the stuff of family legend. What wonderful entertainment for young and old(er)! Unimpressed grand daughter's picture reminded me of my grand son who got a 25 cent grab bag at the holiday fair. He opened it to find two crayons and a pen. "Well, this is not at all useful!" was his comment.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lot of fun! I always wondered where the mates to the socks went!
ReplyDeleteSeems you have enjoyed a lot with your family members. Nice to hear about your tradition and also nice to see all are getting involved.
