Fund Raiser

Every year our Lake Association has its annual Labor Day Fundraiser.  The funds raised are used to maintain the weed harvester.   They have a rummage sale, bucket raffles, food, beer garden, music and kids games.

Many years ago I had the bright idea to make a quilt for one of my bedrooms that had an 'Americana' theme.  Like so many of my good intentions, that project went by the wayside.
When we moved here, the quilt top moved with us.

One of my neighbors always donated a quilt to the Lake Association Fund Raiser.  I approached her, asking if she would be interested in finishing off the quilt that I had started.  And she certainly was!!

Here is the finished product.  She has a fantastic sewing machine!  Look at the little star stitching she did on the border.

I went over to the rummage sale on Saturday,  they had lots of everything!!  And so do I, so I didn't buy much.  I sure had fun looking at the treasurers that other's discard.

Remember these?

I wonder if I could win at this version of Trivia Pursuit!  Its the Baby Boomer's version!!

This shoe made me laugh, I could just visualize some young gal walking down our gravel roads wearing these fancy shoes!

I did find something to buy!!!  I purchased this chair for either myself or if my daughter wanted it I would give it to her.

Well, she really liked it; and decided it would be perfect in her living room.   I am going to re-cover the seat with a tan chenille.

Unfortunately, she is not getting the chair until after my knee surgery.  It sits nice and high and will be easy for me to get in and out.  She's OK with that.

And that't the way it is...............

  2. The quilt is lovely, who knew a sewing machine could do a star stitch. That chair looks perfect. So when are you getting the knee done...I will say a prayer for steady hands for your surgeon and a quick recovery for you! :)

  3. I do like that chair and the quilt is great. It is always much easier to do the top than the finishing. I see a loot of tops at flea markets and neighborhood sales.

  4. Looks there was lots for sale. Your quilt should bring a good price. Love the chair too. You have my thoughts and prayers on your knee surgery. I had both of mine replaced at the same time, so know what you will be facing.

  13. Great looking quilt. Very pretty. Those star stitches are really cool!!

Yes, I do remember those curlers. I never used them though. I remember my mother setting my hair in bobby pins. I liked that because it was easy to sleep on. : )

  15. Love the chair! The spouse and I went to an estate sale this morning. They had tons of stuff...and I think I already have one of everything that they had for sale. I love going to the sales, but I don't need any more stuff. I should probably give up the yard sales and save myself the frustration of not being able to buy every great piece of furniture that I find.

  16. I love the edging on the quilt. I don't have a sewing machine that does that, but I could embroider the stars by hand. Such a fun touch! I hope iit went home with someone who will appreciate all the work.

I liked your tomato soup idea--using a can of soup plus your own tomatoes. Going to try it for dinner, whirring up some tomatoes and basil in the food processor. Thanks for the idea!

  17. The star edging on the quilt is real nice. I like stopping at sales and most of the time just look. The curlers are a blast from the past. Do you remember round spoolies and the pink rubber type curlers. :) The chair is nice and I am sure it will come in handy for you when you get your knee surgery.
