Sew much alike~~

Do your remember the cabbage story I posted.  Well the recipient sent me a lovely basket with jellies, pickled beets, and relishes as a thank you; she lined the basket with a very fall like piece of material.

Last weekend my granddaughter was here, and we decided to put that piece of fabric to good use. We were going to make a fall dress for her doll.   This was the first time she ever used a sewing machine!

First I let her push on the foot petal to just get the feel of it.  Then I plugged in the machine and let her practice sewing on a scrap of material.

Now we are ready to make the dress.  I laid the pattern on the material, and she cut it out, doing a terrific job.

I let her sew the straight pieces, using both straight stitches and zig zag stitches.

I took care of anything with a curve.  She had a fear of sewing her finger to the fabric, until I demonstrated to  her that the 'foot' is curved to prevent such accidents.

We had so much fun sharing the love of sewing.  She was so proud of the dress she made, and she should be.  It was her idea to make a vest.  Of course, I had a small scrap that would match.  It was perfect!!!

And that's the way it is..................................

[BTW -- I have that same machine, and I can't get the bobbin assembly to work properly. I think I could do some sewing if I could get that piece to cooperate!]

  13. Great job on the dress.....She must have her grandma's talent....I see a lot more fun time together sewing projects. It is so nice to have the technology to take pictures and save these moments for when the grands are all grown up.

  14. And you've created a lovely memory for her to share with photos to complete the memory. Long after you are gone she will be able to show her family what she used to get up to with her beloved Grandmother.

I still remember the first time I was allowed to use the sewing machine, it set me on the path of creativity for life.

By the way, lol, I though you might have put me in the "boring" section of blogging...
