Last weekend my granddaughter was here, and we decided to put that piece of fabric to good use. We were going to make a fall dress for her doll. This was the first time she ever used a sewing machine!
First I let her push on the foot petal to just get the feel of it. Then I plugged in the machine and let her practice sewing on a scrap of material.
Now we are ready to make the dress. I laid the pattern on the material, and she cut it out, doing a terrific job.
I let her sew the straight pieces, using both straight stitches and zig zag stitches.
I took care of anything with a curve. She had a fear of sewing her finger to the fabric, until I demonstrated to her that the 'foot' is curved to prevent such accidents.
We had so much fun sharing the love of sewing. She was so proud of the dress she made, and she should be. It was her idea to make a vest. Of course, I had a small scrap that would match. It was perfect!!!
And that's the way it is..................................
