Mama duck



I saw this mama duck walking along shore, she seemed kind of nervous, and kept a watchful eye on me.  



As I looked around I realized why she was so protective.  



Aren't they adorable?


Mama still didn't trust me, and convinced the little ones to follow her.


And off they went............


Even in the water Moma is still watching, keeping her babies out of harm's way.  



And that's the way it is...................

    Mama has to be cautious, the mortality rate is so high for her babies....I miss having ducks, we used to have a huge pond and babies every spring.

    A beautiful family! Those mamas can be vicious, too. Many years ago, a family grew in our front garden. We had a cat at the time, and when he went to investigate, the mama almost blinded him with a swish of her wing. They are protective!

    Now those Wisconsin ducks must belong to the Skittish family ;>) At the cottage we were at a little over a week ago, mama duck led her babies right up to where we were swimming; mind you, they could move fast if they had to.
