Heirloom Plastic

I bought this little plastic picnic basket when our son and daughter were about six and four.  In other words, a long time ago.  When I purchased the basket, I think at K-Mart, it had two plates, two cups and some plastic eating utensils.  Those little pieces have all disappeared.  But the basket has been around since the  80's.  Our children would take their peanut butter sandwiches and a few cookies out to the woods and eat their lunch.

This week two of the grands are staying with us and wanted a picnic lunch.  We dug the little green basket out of the garage and  cleaned it up.  And like I did for their parents; I packed a surprise lunch, handed them the basket and off they went.

They were excited to have a private little lunch together.  They didn't go far, and stayed in the yard.  I'm sure as the week goes on they will venture a little farther in the woods.

So if something is handed down through the generations, it becomes an heirloom, right?
Even if its plastic?

And that's the way it is......................

  18. It doesn't matter that it's plastic; it still holds many wonderful memories. Who knows maybe their children will one day get to use it too!

  19. It's interesting how some things survive as that has. I'm thinking back over the items which were around our house for at least a couple generations to enjoy. Sadly, many of them had to go when I downsized in the the move, but the memories are sweet, watching the grands use items, play with toys, read books that their parents had before them. Yes, that little basket is an heirloom, for sure.
