Get your Kicks

We took a road trip to Oatman, AZ,  an old mining town located on the original Route 66.   Burros come in to town to be fed a diet of carrots.

They can smell a bag of carrots a mile away.  All except the newborns who have signs on them asking the tourists not to feed them, as they can't digest real food.   The young keep their mama's in sight.

Oatman looks like an old western town, both sides of the street are lined with numerous gift shops, made to look like the old west.  All the while people are milling around, donkeys are looking for handouts, cars, bikes,  motor homes are driving through.  It is amazing that no one gets hurt.
I was real lucky that the Mr. bought me an ice cream cone, as a paying customer I had the privilege of using their ladies room.
Another sign I saw was on the stairs leading to a lady of the evening's quarters!!

At a designated time cowboys enact a bank robbery and shoot out.  This guy holds up the bank.
The sheriff comes on the scene trying to retrieve the bag of gold from the robber.
In the end the bad guy looses, and the sheriff is the hero.  These guys do this performance as volunteers.  They do pass the hat, asking for a dollar from everyone.  The money is donated to the Shriners, what ever they collected today will be added to the $63,000 they have already collected.
In the end Shriners will and the bad guy looses.

And that's the way it is.......................................

  1. Thanks for taking me along on your visit to Oatman. It sounds like a busy place with people milling around, vehicles driving through and burros looking for handouts! The first thing to cross my mind when you wrote that the burros can smell a carrot a mile away is that our cat, Patches, knows catnip is in the offing by the snap of a lid!

  6. I love that little town! Hubby and I drive through it often on our little jaunt here and there. So much fun, but sometimes it can be so crowded it's hard to drive through it! Have a great adventure.
